Off the Exchange Health Plans

The Off-Exchange plans can include buying a plan direct from the Insurance company but there is not a Tax Credit available for purchasing that way. You may shop on the Exchange website or directly through the individual Insurance company that you want. You may set up an account on yourhealthidaho.org as well, and it is a good idea in case you qualify for a Tax Credit in the future. Plus, it is a great place to shop since you can compare plans side by side.

Whether you purchase a plan on or off the Exchange the plans are the same, the tax credit and CSR only change the amount you will pay for the plan.

You can only get the Tax Credit discount if you go through the Exchange. Otherwise you can still buy the same plan with all the 10 Essential Benefits through the company, however, you will be paying full price.

There is a new plan available out there offered through Blue Cross. It is considered an Enhanced Short-term plan with up to 364 day coverage and a 36 month renewability. They are claiming the rates will be up to 40% less than Idaho Exchange rates. There are, however, health questions and pre-existing conditions that enter the mix. The new program is called ACCESS w/ 3 levels of coverage.
